Stock Photo - FILE - File picture dated 26 September 2003 showing Margarete Lambert, formerly known as Gretel Bergmann, standing at the entrance to the Gretel Bergmann stadium in Laupheim, Germany. Lambert, born in 1914 in Laupheim, under her maiden name of Gretel Bergmann broke the German record in high jumping ahead of the Olympic Games of 1936, which would have sufficed for a golden medal. She was not allowed to participate in the games due to her Jewish origin and migrated to the US not long after. Her hometown of Leipheim named an athletics stadium in her honour, which she visited for the first time on this date. The former Jewish high jumper Gretel Bergmann died in New York aged 103.
