The ECJ ruling on warnings for the sale of cigarettes in vending machines is expected on March 9. The background to this is a case at the Federal Court of Justice concerning vending machines in which the cigarette pack falls onto the checkout belt after a brand has been selected. The non-smokers' initiative Pro Rauchfrei (Pro Smoke-Free) had filed a lawsuit because cigarettes were offered at the checkout counters of two Munich supermarkets via corresponding vending machines without any warning notices being visible to the customer from the outside.
