In the forte is a walled temple district, whose core piece is still a 25 m high (originally probably around 50 m high) ziggurat (temple tower), which represents one of the best preserved temple towers of Mesopotamia. It has a side length of 105 m and is the oldest ziggurat ever found in Elam. It consisted of a high temple on four terraces.
