Spain will enter the small group of countries in a position to send small satellites into space. PLD Space has presented this Friday Miura 1, the first space rocket capable of putting satellites weighing up to 100 kilos into orbit. This vehicle, which is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2022, is the predecessor to the Miura 5, a more advanced model that is expected to tackle its first mission in 2024, and which will be able to carry five times the load. The Miura 1, around 12 meters high and weighing 2,550 kilos, will be on display until Sunday at the Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid. Once it is validated by the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), from this complex the spacecraft will make its first flight, in which it will be the first launch mission of a European rocket in history. According to forecasts, it will reach a height of 150 kilometers to land with a parachute in the Atlantic, about 70 kilometers from the point of its launch, from where it will be picked up by boat. It was presented by the company's co-founders, Raul Torres and Raul Verdu, together with Ezequiel Sánchez, CEO of the company. Photo: Juan Carlos Rojas/Picture Alliance.
