Stock Photo - PRODUCTION - 09 December 2021, Saxony-Anhalt, Köthen: At the Biosolar Centre of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Köthen, PhD student Christian Kleinert takes a look at the cultivation of algae in so-called fir tree reactors. In cooperation with the Gicon Group (Dresden), the scientists are working on the safety of algae production. Algae can be used to produce fuels, food, but also chemical and pharmaceutical products. A major advantage is that microalgae grow five to 20 times faster than crops such as maize or rape. Algae do not need a land surface, they can thrive anywhere with water, light, carbon dioxide and nutrient salts.
