Stock Photo - PRODUCTION - 10 November 2022, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Stralsund: Construction workers work on the future Königsweg visitor bridge in front of the closed Königsstuhl viewing platform on the chalk coast of the island of Rügen. The new so-called Königsweg is scheduled to open in spring 2023. The structure, suspended from a mast, is to hover above the rock, protecting it from erosion. The previous lookout point on the rock had been closed off at the end of September after a ceremonial finale to protect the area from erosion. According to earlier information from the National Park Center, the Königsstuhl normally receives around 300,000 visitors a year. The first known mention of the Königsstuhl dates back to 1584, and tourism had already begun here in the late 17th to 18th centuries.
