Stock Photo - PRODUCTION - 18 January 2022, Saxony-Anhalt, Dessau-Roßlau: A modified diesel commercial vehicle engine with six cylinders and a displacement of 15 l is supplied with hydrogen for a test run at the Wissenschaftlich-Technisches Zentrum für Motoren- und Maschinenforschung Roßlau gGmbH (WTZ) via an additionally mounted supply line. A modified cylinder head was fitted to the engine for operation with hydrogen, which among other things accommodates spark plugs and the hydrogen injectors. The researchers want to run diesel trains on environmentally friendly fuels in the future. If all goes well, regular train service between Dessau and Wörlitz could start using such a drive system in 2025.
