Stock Photo - PRODUCTION - 19 October 2022, Brandenburg, Reitwein: Fisheries biologist Christian Wolter, together with colleagues from the Leibnitz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB), is carrying out fish sampling on the Oder River near Reitwein, where they also hope to detect occurrences of the Baltic Golden Biter (Sabanejewia baltica). A population of about 500 individuals was last observed in 2021; it was considered the westernmost occurrence of the fish, which is native to Eastern Europe and Western Asia and grows up to 12 centimeters in length.
