Stock Photo - PRODUCTION - 19 October 2022, Brandenburg, Reitwein: Fisheries biologists Christian Wolter (l-r), Lutz Wende and Jan Hallermann from the Leibnitz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) collect fish from the Oder River near Reitwein using electric fishing rods and landing nets. Employees of the IGB are carrying out a fish sampling here, in which they also want to detect occurrences of the Baltic Golden Biter (Sabanejewia baltica). A population of about 500 individuals was last observed in 2021; it was considered the westernmost occurrence of the fish, which is native to Eastern Europe and Western Asia and grows up to 12 centimeters in length.
