Stock Photo - PRODUCTION - 28 July 2023, Saxony-Anhalt, Annaburg: Paul Hahlbeck (front) and Robin Ettlich, forestry workers at the Saxony-Anhalt state kiln in Annaburg, fill the so-called pre-dryer with pine cones. Here, the pre-dried cones begin to release the wing seed under the influence of heat. The capacity of the pre-dryer is about one ton of cones on two storage levels. The forestry seed kiln originated in 1903 in the extraction of pine seeds. To this day, mainly pine trees are processed. The seed obtained from selected, genetically perfect forest stands is supplied to nurseries and seed shops, small forest owners, research institutes and universities, among others.
