The professor has been appointed member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission for a period of five years. Lemmelijn is thus the first Belgian woman in this committee, which includes exegetes from all over the world. The Pontifical Biblical Commission was established in 1902 by Pope Leo XIII to support the Papal Magisterium and to promote and to improve the quality of Bible study. The 22 committee members meet in Rome several times a year for consultations. The Bible Commission is part of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and has an advisory capacity.
