According to the Russian Investigative Committee, self-employed entrepreneur and tiktoker Valeria Chekalina, who received income from fitness marathons, opted for a simplified taxation system for a personal income of less than 150 million roubles and used her relatives as accomplices so as not to pay VAT and personal income tax between July 2020 and July 2022. Valeria Chekalina is suspected of failing to pay 300 million roubles. On 16 March 2023, another criminal investigation was launched against Chekalina and her husband over a suspected 130 million rouble money laundering operation.
