Stock Photo - The empty ruins of the landmarked former Kdf complex Prora can be seen on the island of Ruegen in Binz, Germany, 18 May 2017. The construction of the buildings was stopped in 1939. At the end of the II. World War the Red Army attempted at detonating the northern part of the complex. The building complex, also known as the ""Colossus of Ruegen"" was supposed to reach four and a half kilometres in length, six stories in height with 10,000 rooms for 20,000 vacationers. The National Socialist organisation ""Kraft durch Freude"" (KdF, lit. ""Strength through Joy"") planned it to be so. In 2016 all of the National Socialist buildings were handed over to private investors, which has been met with criticism. Over 80 years ago, on the 2nd of May 1936, the cornerstone ceremony of the first of five ""KdF Resorts"" occured. Photo: Jens Büttner/dpa-Zentralbild/ZB. - Binz/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania/Germany
