Both the numbers of horses as the prices were dramatically low because of the economic recession. The horse market in Elst dates of the Middle Ages and is the oldest horse auction in the Netherlands. The supply of 1585 animals was significantly less than last year (more than 1800). The prices are because of the economic recession and the surplus of horses and ponies several years very low. For the Dutch horses there was Monday still a lot of interest from various European countries (France, Denmark, Germany and Romania), where the horses and pony commerce is still in its infancy.
