Stock Photo - The International Birdman is a competition held in the West Sussex town of Worthing. The competition involves human 'birdmen' trying to fly off the end of a pier into the sea for prize money. Thousands of spectators cheered from the beach as the competitors launched themselves into the English Channel in fancy dress, including a rocket outfit, a Buzz Lightyear costume and a 'Pigs Might Fly' plane covered with inflatable piglets. Tony Hughes, a former world hang-gliding champion, won the competition with a 106m flight in a glider which lasted 11.9 seconds.
