Stock Photo - The sanctuary of Selvascura. The presence of the monks-Knights would be testified by what for centuries is commonly called, by the locals, the cave of the Templars or Cave of Selvascura. The current sanctuary of the crucifix is a natural cave of almost rectangular shape, with the walls completely frescoed by thirteen panels and a niche, dating back to the fifteenth century. Starting from the wall to the right of those who enter, you will recognize: the Madonna and Child, mary Magdalene, the Annunciation, the Crucifixion, a character on a scale pierced by an arrow, and a scene of animals, the blessing Christ with four Saints (from left to right: San Leonardo, st. James, St. Francis and pope Leo IX), a wild boar feeding her puppies, some prisoners intent to get rid of the chains, San Leonardo, Madonna of the Palm, and St Thomas skeptical. In the niche, finally, you can see St. George and the Dragon, St. Nicholas of Bari and St. Anthony Abbot, while on the ceiling is a more recent painting depicting St. Michael (XIX century.). Continuing from the ancient romitorio you reach a circular chapel, built specifically to accommodate the Crucifix of Pietrosanti. Bassiano (Italia), March 30th, 2021.
