The Ancient Florentine Silk Factory thus founded in Florence in the eighteenth century began to weave bespoke fabrics according to the Florentine tradition. Silk was, since the Renaissance, the origin of wealth and the importance of many noble families of Florence and around the middle of the eighteenth century some of these, including the della Gherardesca, the Pucci, the Bartolozzi, the Corsini, the Agresti and many others decided to create a single laboratory, sharing the frames, the cartons and the designs of the fabrics they kept in their respective buildings. The Antico Setificio Fiorentino was born, a factory capable of meeting all the needs of the founding families. The silks produced were intended for the periodic renewal of the furnishings, for the decoration of the family salons and chapels, for the packaging of wedding kits and for special events. These fabrics were then greatly admired in various parts of the world and it was thus that these fabrics began to furnish the prestigious European homes. Out of twelve looms, six by hand from the eighteenth century and six mechanics from the nineteenth century to the present day, which was acquired in 2010 by the fashion company Stefano Ricci, it is one of the last workshops capable of producing handmade silk Florence, ITALY-11-06-2020.
