Stock Photo - The spot where the bullet striked into a wall over the woman's bed. A man only suffered from slight lacerations during his escape to West Berlin on 4th January 1965. Flares, set off by the escape, alarmed the border guards which started to fire. The shots missed the man. One shot went through a window, in an apartment in West Berlin on Wolgaster Street, into a wall half a meter above a sleeping woman's head. The Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic were split into west and east by an iron curtain from 13th August 1961, the day of the building of Berlin Wall, to the fall of the wall on 9th November 1989. - Berlin/Germany
