Stock Photo - To celebrate International Women’s Day 2018, a sculpture of a young girl, dubbed Fearless Friend, stands defiant today in front of the bull at Birmingham’s busy Bullring shopping centre. The Fearless Friend installation carries the torch lit by 2017’s Fearless Girl in New York City, and aims to show that women in the UK stand in solidarity with women all over the world this International Women’s Day. The Fearless Friend sculpture, which took more than 100 hours to create and is made up of almost 5,000 spring flowers, was put in place opposite the 6 tonne, 2.2m tall bull in Birmingham’s Bullring in the early hours of Thursday the 8th March. It was commissioned by app and social network GirlCrew.com, a platform for women to make new friends, with more than 100,000 members across 46 cities worldwide. After a momentous 2017 and start to 2018 for women around the world; with the prominence of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, and pressure to recognise the contributions of women equally in the workplace, Fearless Friend holds a megaphone in one hand, a symbol that women of all ages will be heard. The Fearless Girl statue and campaign called on companies to increase gender diversity on their boards. The Fearless Friend asks women both in the UK and around the world to continue to come together and make their voices heard on issues that affect them. Photos will be shared on social media using #FearlessFriend. Featuring: Atmsophere Where: London, United Kingdom When: 08 Mar 2018 Credit: Alex Bradbury/PinPep/WENN.com
