Eleven young American, members of the student travel exchange programme named 'Experiment in International Living' have spent three weeks living with 'African families in Dar as Salaam, Tanzania. Now the group is living with African farmers in a village at Samagila. The Americans, all eleven of them live in a small African hut, with mud walls, the mud floor and thatched roof. The Americans, who sleep on matresses laid on the ground, often found rats running over them at night. The group have to walk a good mile to get drinking water from a fairly dirty waterhole. For meals, the Americans eat Umagli, (a solid block of corn meal boiled in water) beans and rice. The boys are building a house at Samagila while the girls cook and work on fields.
