Stock Photo - 1962 - Hectic life for Indian stock exchange members. Excita-le bombay brokers and jobbers make throgmorton street seem a haven of peace in co-on with India's main stock market: Worse than opening day at the Sales, nesier, more crowded and more hectic than a railway torminus on a Bank Holiday: in comparison with the Stock Exchange in Bombay, London's House and its Floor presents a dignifiedn nay! funereal picture even during Bank Rate changes. These exclusive pictures just received from India's commercial city, were --en just after President Nehru's Goverment had announced changes in textile taxes which affected textile shares. In a temperature of 104 degrees our correspondent witnessed scenes of excitement undreamed of in a financial setting. Masses of white robed babu-clerks, their jobber principals, the brokers and scores of tic-tac men signalling prices and deals to brokers operating telephones and watching them from the windows, small groups of dealers arguing over prices, occasional moments of peace for totting up profits and prices made a facinating opportunity to study the Indian businessman at work. Novel idea of the jobbers is to use a leather hanging strap attached to an iron rail to prevent himself from being pushed or pulled off his stand.
