Stock Photo - 1962 - The Biggest Key-Collection Of The World Possesses A Man Of Munich Found the right key: to get a solitary collection, has Heinrich Pankofer (our picture). The 75-year-old man of Munich collects keys and locks (many years he had a respective special workshop) and meanwhile with more than 1000 pieces, many of them very rare and valuable, he has the biggest and probably most precious collection of this kind in the world. He has not only keys of all cultural epochs, but also curtosities as coffin- and widower-keys, grace-keys and gilded chamberlain-keys etc. The smallest object of this extraordinary collection is a five-milli-metre key and the wrought-iron key to the former front gate of the National Theatre in Munich, which he in 1944 digged out of the ruins, belongs also to Pankofer's collection like the key, which opened the secret drawer of the linen-cupboard of Ludwig II, where the King has his intimate letters. Rich sources for the 'castellan' are e.g. auctions in the whole world, where he bought many (Credit Image: © Keystone Pictures USA/ZUMAPRESS.com)
