The back-up or Abort Guidance System (AGS) has the important role of letting astronauts take over control from the primary guidance system if there is a malfunction on descent or ascent during the lunar voyage. The AGS was built by TRW Systems Group for Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, lunar module prime contractor. (Credit Image: © Keystone Pictures USA/ZUMAPRESS.com)
