Stock Photo - 1968 - Wild Flowers on Stamps; Colorful wild flowers will be featured in the series of special stamps on British flora which will be put on sale on April 24th. From the wealth of species which can be found in hedgrows and fields, some of the most familiar have been selected to appear on the stamps. The block of four different 4d, stamps depicts the hawthorn and the bramble, the morning glory and viper's bugloss, the ox eye daisy, colstfoot and buttercup, and the bluebell, red champion and wood anemone. The 9d, stamp illustrates the dog violet and the 1s 9d stamp the premiere. The colors of the stamps are 4d yellow, green light red, red, brown, blue, gray, black. 9d. green, gray, violet, orange. 1s9d green, grey, yellow and orange. The stamps will be printed in phtogravure process by Messrs. Harrisons and sons ltd. and will be issued with and without Phospher lines. All six stamps will be horizontal and twice normal size. The Rev. W. Keble Martin M.A., F.L.S. D.S. who designed the block of four stamps was born in 1877 and during his schooldays at Marlborough was an enthusiastic lepidopterist and botanist, taking botany as a degree subject when he went to Oxford. He was an active member of the two botanical exchange clubs and of the international botanical congress 1930 and was elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society in 1928. His book, 'The Concise British flora in color' is the triumphant outcome of 60 years of meticulous and devoted study, research, note taking and draftsmanship p. Mary Grierson, who has been the official artist at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, for six years designed the 9d and 1s9d stamps. Photos Shows Mary Grierson, and 90 year old the Rev. W.
