The sea robin, a bottom - dwelling fish that is found in warm and temperate waters around the world, has a reputation as a bait stealer, however, it is good- earthing but seldom appears on the table because of its unappetizing appearance. Sea Robins roam the bottom in large schools, sometimes literally running along the bottom on the long rays that extend like sensitive fingers from their pectoral fins. About 16-inches long at most, the sea robin feeds largely on small crustaceans. It is a noisy creature, producing sounds by means of muscles attached to the gas bladder. The sea robins at the aquarium are in an exhibit of fish of local marine waters, These include striped bass, blackfish, cunners, and flounders.
