Stock Photo - According to Greek mythology, Danae and her son Perseus were set adrift in the sea in a box (seen here in this 1921 illustration) by Perseus' grandfather, to whom an omen had foretold he would be killed by a son of Danae. Shown here is Danae pleading with her father and holding her infant son Perseus as she is being set adrift. The tide washed the box up on the shore of Seriphos, one of the Cyclades islands. Dictys, a fisherman and brother of Seriphos' king, rescued the pair.
