Aegir was well known for his hospitality, and the gods would come to his home, where he and his wife Ran would serve a great banquet. This 1905 illustration shows Loki at Aegir's banquet. Loki, standing at right, has been tormenting and insulting the gods at the feast. Thor, the powerful god of thunder, arrived late and lifted his hammer to silence Loki, but Loki slipped away to avoid him and changed himself into different animals, Ran gave Thor a net to ensare Loki, which he did.
