A navy ship without a pin-up girl is almost unheard of in the Royal Navy, and so when the crew heard that none other than actress Jayne Mansfield was in the North East staying at Gatshead on Tyne, the skipper, Lt. Anthony Peregrine promptly put things right by the crew, rang Jayne, and invited her to the ship. so in between club engagements Jayne turned up at the quayside and was welcomed aboard by the crew. In the next few days, H.M.S. Monkton will be sweeping the seas with their pictures of Jayne hanging at bulkheads.
