Inscribed 'The comic genius who gave pleasure to so Many', the 6ft bronze is the work of 33-year old Essex scepters John Doubleday. It was commissioned by the Bri-tol and west building society whose chairman Mr Andrew Brooke - partridge, Chairman of the Greater London Council, who received it on behalf of the 'Citizens of London', Chaplin, the son of show business Parents , was born in East Lane, Woolworth, in 1889, He was knighted in 1975 and died in Geneva on Christmas Day, 1977.
