High latitude investigations: Scientific workers and technical personnel of the Soviet Union have just carried out a high latitude expedition with two research stations North Pole 3 and North Pole 4 . The workers a these stations are equipped with unique quarters such as sledge mounted houses which can easily be moved from place to place. Each station has a Canteen a club and a bath house. Next to the living quarters are meteorological stations, instruments for geophysical and Hydrological observations and a radio station. The stations conduct deep sea observations taking samples of deep water to determine action of the currents at various levels temperature and composition of the sea water dredging various sea organisms etc. The stations are also provided with helicopters for scientific observation and various reguolar trips to nearby ice floes. The stations are regularly visited by aircraft bringing newspapers letters parcels fresh food films etc. Photos hows general view of North Pole 4 after a snowfall.
