Stock Photo - At the end of the street is a triumphal arch, one of the best preserved stone structures in Petra. This three_arched gateway led into the temenos, the sacred area temenos of Qasr al Bint Firaun, a temple dedicated to the god Dushrat Dushares. The arch was built in the 2nd century AD. Originally it was set on a high stone platform and was framed by two tower_shaped structures. Four free_standing columns can be seen in the facade on the side of the cardo north_south street, along with capitals decorated with animal and plant motifs. The internal facade consists of two doorways with pairs of quarter columns and two partially recessed columns in the center. The central arch has capitals with plant volutes, while the others are Nabataean in style. Small stucco panels decorate the gateway. The Nabataean city of Petra in Jordan was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.
