Stock Photo - Aug. 03, 1968 - A DC-8 jet aircraft, worth eight million dollars, of the Delta Air Lines, was forced to land in Havana by passenger Laurence Rhodes, a 29-year-old American citizen living in Florida. Rhodes held the crew at gunpoint with a pistol shortly after the takeoff from Tampa. The Cuban authorities are studying the application for political asylum by Rhodes. The aircraft was returned to the United States. During the three-hour unexpected stay in the international airport 'Jose Marti' in Havana, the 102 passengers on the plane took soft drinks, coffee, and bought cigars and Cuban rum.
