Stock Photo - Aug. 08, 1979 - Lord Mountbatten Killed In Boat Blast; Lord Mountbatten of Burma, 79, Admiral of the Fleet, and the last Viceroy of India, was assassinated during a fishing trip with members of his family yesterday as they left Mollaghmore Harbour, Co Sligo. His grandson, Nicholas Brabourne, 14, and an Irish crewman, Paul Maxwell, 16, were also killed on the bomb blast. Three other family members were seriously injured, they were the Earl's daughter, Lady Brabourne, her husband Lord Brabourne, the Dowager Lady Brabourne, and the twin brother of the dead Nicholas, Timothy, all are seriously ill in the intensive care unit of Slige General Hospital. The boat they were going fishing in Shadow V. was blown to pieces.
