Stock Photo - Aug. 27, 1964 - A Space Rocket That Will Never Be Blasted Off From A Launching Pad. Ready for action - but this space rocket will never be blasted off from the launching pad - instead it will be given the shakes. The rocket, a Europa 1, is assembled inside a special test tower which has been built at the Hawker-Sidderley Dynamics factory in Hatfield, Hertz. it will be shaken about violently during a series of scientific tests, and from its reactions, recorded on more than 200 instruments, engineers will be able to tell where such a rocket will stand up to the strain of a blast-off from Wommera, Australia, in 1966. The test on it are part of a combined space research programme run by Britain, France, Germany and Italy. Parts of the rocket have been arriving at Hatfield since December, and British, French and German technicians put them together.
