Stock Photo - Autun Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral, and a national monument of France. It was built between 1120 and 1146 as a pilgrimage church to hold the relics of Lazarus. The interior of Autun Cathedral is austerely Romanesque and rather dark. The church is decorated with sculptures and carvings by the great Romanesque sculptor Gislebertus. Seen here is the west portal in the narthex, decorated with Gislebertus´ Romanesque sculptures of St. Lazarus and his sister, Mary Magdalene. The capital is also decorated with carvings by Gislebertus. Gothic additions were made to the church in the 15th century, including the side chapels and the large spire.
