Stock Photo - Bedmar is a small village in the province of Jaén, in the south of Spain. It is primarily known for its olive production, and is surrounded by olive groves which are largely managed by local farmers. Olive trees are an important part of Bedmar’s culture, economy, and environmental landscape. Its olive groves have been cultivated for centuries, and serve as both a major source of income and a rural idyll for local farmers. All of the local farmers use traditional agricultural practices to maintain the olive groves, such as pruning, weeding, and harvesting. They also use sustainable irrigation methods, which use water collected via rainwater harvesting systems, local streams, and underground aquifers. Bedmar produces more olive oil than any other municipality in Spain, producing nearly 100,000 liters of olive oil every year. The olive oil produced there is highly sought after for its high quality and complex flavors, and is exported throughout Spain and the world.
