He was the boss of the chain of stores which changed the shopping habits of millions.. Lord Marks was the son of a poor polish immigrant Michael Marks - who started the business empire with a 'penny bazaar' - a stall in a Leeds Street - on which everything was priced at ld. The business grew and his son - took over and built it up to the best business of its kind in the world today. He insisted on quality as well as fair prices in all of his 240 stores throughput the country. The latest accounting showed a net trading profit for last year of £28,500,000 - on a turnover of £201,500,000..
