Stock Photo - Disabled children, some wearing flotation devices - some don't, jump courageously into the water in a photograph taken in May 1968. They are part of a group of handicapped children cared for by the city day care center for children suffering from dysmelia in the Kletteberg district of Cologne, Germany. The group receives swim practice once a week at a special practice pool at the Müngersdorfer Stadium. The children suffering from Dysmelia (a congenital disorder referring to the limbs), who will soon be released from their current protective setting into schools, are being prepared at this special Cologne-based institution to live together with regular children. The children are attended to by specially trained personnel including a pediatrician, a preschool teacher, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist and a psychologist. - Köln/Nordrhein-Westfalen/Germany
