Stock Photo - Feb. 26, 2012 - Although visitors were not allowed inside Chartwell Manor, they had every opportunity of viewing it from the grounds. This picture of the house was taken through the arch of the Marlborough Pavillion. Grounds of Chartwell are opened to the Public; Thousands of people took advantage of the opportunity to see the 82 acre grounds of Chartwell Manor, Westereham, Kent, the beautiful home of Mr. Winston Churchill which was opened to the public. The gates were open between 10 am. and 7 pm. and many visitors came by special coach exclusions. Entry fee was 2s and all proceeds went to the Y.W.C.A. of which Mrs, Churchill is Vice President. An open air refreshment stand was set up in a corner of the grounds and visitors took tea at tables under striped umbrellas. Most of the attendants, stewards and guides were volunteers.
