Stock Photo - Folding fan with leaf on which in watercolor Eliezer, Rebecca at the source, on a frame of carved and painted ivory with mother-of-pearl, On the leaf is an episode from the much loved Bible story about bridal recruitment and marriage van Isaac, which was frequently depicted on fan blades. The most commonly used - similarly here - was the moment when Eliezer handed over the jewelry and thus made the actual proposal (Gen. 24:22). This is not surprising, since many of these fans were intended as a wedding gift. Eliezer was sent by Abraham to the city of Nahor to find a bride for his son Isaac. Once at the well outside of this city, Eliezer met Rebecca who gave him and his camels to drink and thereby became the God-appointed bride for Isaac. Then Eliezer gave her a nose ring and two bracelets of gold (Gen. 24: 11-23). It is striking that the depiction of the Bible text differs: Rebecca does not get a nose ring but a necklace and the camels are missing. Rebecca and three women draw water from the well on the parchment leaf. To the left, Eliezer's servant is kneeling in the bushes by an open chest, to the right, Eliezer is approaching Rebecca, holding a chain in his outstretched hands. A frame of bushes and trees. The performance is framed by a border of flowers and leaves. Backside of the leaf: two flower sprays in the center of an empty leaf, along three edges a simple border of flowers. The frame has three cartouches, the middle one a love pair with flowers, the left wooden wind instrument with sheet music, the right grape bunch, peaches and a bird. The cartouches are surrounded by an open cut edge with flowers and fruits and topped by a fruit basket with butterflies. Four rocaille ornaments, cut open, with mother-of-pearl behind it. The support part of the closing legs is cut open and has a mother-of-pearl back. The hand part of the closing legs is partially cut open and painted further. Straight shoulder. Copper locking pin with a mother-of-pearl disc underneath. 22
