Stock Photo - Henry Rich, 1st Earl of Holland, (1810). Rich (1590-1649) was created Earl of Holland in 1624. A courtier and soldier, he became a favourite of James I but fell out of favour when Charles I came to the throne. He fought on the Royalist side in the Civil War, but was captured at St Neots in 1648 and was tried and executed the following year.
