It has now been ascertained that it was the HMS Europa and not HMS Euryalus. Europa was a ship of the Diadem class of protected cruiser in the Royal Navy. She was built by J & G Thompson of Clydebank and launched on the 20th March 1897. In 1915 she was operating off Mudros, participating in the Dardanelles Campaign for which she received the Battle Honour - Dardanelles 1915.
