Stock Photo - Jan. 01, 1958 - The U.S. Air Force's new Automatic Tracking Telemetry Antenna, designated TLM-18, towers higher than a seven-story building at its location, Melbourne, Florida. the 60-foot web-like antenna, believed to be the largest of its type in existence, is one of five being built for the Air Force at sites along the 5,000 mile test range of the Air Force Missile Test Center, Caps Canaveral, Florida. The equipment will be used to track ballistic missiles, and will cover the entire range with a moderate amount of overlap between antenna installation. The other four installations at which the TLM-18 are being set up are the launching site, Cape Canaveral, and at its down-range bases on Antigua, British West Indies, Fernando de Noronha (off the east coast of Brazil), and Ascension Island in the South Atlantic.
