Stock Photo - Jan. 1, 1970 - Siamese twins are a Chinese puzzle: The Siamese twin girls, who are joined at the chest facing each other, celebrated their first birthday on July, 3rd 1973. at the national Taiwan university hospital in Taipei. The joined twins were abandoned by their parents a year ago. Doctors have decided not to separate the Siamese twins by surgery because the hearts of the twins are abnormal and linked together. There has been a legal question as to whether the Siamese twins named yi hsin and yi teh are two persons or just one. From a medical point of view they are regarde as two persons. but legal circles contend that they can be counted only as one person because when they become adults, one crime committed by one of the two will inevitably involve the other, due to the fact that they cannot be separated. The final decision is that they are two persons, a conclusion based on a certificated of birth given by the hospital, despite the view taken by legal circles. Mean while, the birthday held at the hospital with a big cakes each for Yi Hsinl and Yi Teh, was also a farewell party as the twins will be transferred to a private nursery managed by a catholic priest in Taipei.
