Stock Photo - Jul. 07, 1975 - Cracked Glass Vase is Sold for 0,000 at Sothesby's Belgravia. A highly important group of 19th century gals, which has been on loan to the British Museum since 1959, was put up for auction today at Sothesby's Belgravia. Known as the Pargeter Northwood Cameo Glass Collection, one of the Prize pieces was a copy of the Barberini or Portland Roman glass vase. Philip Pargeter and his cousin John Northwood developed a new technique for the reproduction in glass of the vase, completing it in 1876. Northwood took the incomplete vase several times to the British Museum to compare it with the original, an on one cold morning the heat of his hands cracked the vase. This was sold to a New York buyer today for 0,000. Another item in this valuable collection was the Milton Vase, dated 1878, which was sold to another New York buyer for 6,000.
