Every thing is above board, betting is no longer a furtive business. Betting is a brisk and orderly procedure, rather like going into a post office. Regulations prohibit loitering outside betting shops. Most punters place their bets then go home, or a long to the nearest pub, to watch the race on the television. Amenities in most betting shops are almost as good as those at a racecourse. Some bookmakers have installed radio facilities to pick up commentaries on the course and have them relayed to punters before they place their bets changes in Betting are clearly tabulated as they occur and tape machines record runners, jockeys and weights as soon as they are announced on the course.
