Built at Jodrell Bank, Cheshire for Manchester University- at a cost of about ?650,000 - it consists of a gigantic copper mesh bowl weighing 780 tons and suspene between two towers 180 ft. high. Funds for its constructions were provide by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Nuffield Foundation. The diameter of bowl is 250 ft- and the aerial masts are 62 ft. high. The total weight of the moving parts is 2,000 tons.
