Built at Jordell Bank, Cheshire for Manchester University - at a cost of about 50,000 - it consists of a gigantic copper mesh bowl Weighing 50 tone and suspended between two towers 180 ft. high. Funds for its construction were provideby the Department od Scientific and Industrial Research and the Nuffield Foundation. The diameter of the bowl 250ft. - and the searil masts are 621/2 ft. high. The total weight of the moving parts is 2,000 tons.
