Stock Photo - June 1, 2008 - Paris, France - Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent (August 1, 1936 - June 1, 2008), known as YVES SAINT LAURENT, was a French fashion designer, and is regarded as one of the greatest names in fashion history. Yves spent his first year at the House of Dior on mundane tasks. Eventually he was allowed to submit sketches for the couture collection. In August 1957, Dior chose Saint Laurent to succeed him as designer. Dior was only 52 at the time. In October of that year Dior died of a massive heart attack, Yves was 21. 1960 - Yves found himself conscripted to serve in the French Army, but after 20 days he checked-in at a military hospital, where he received news that he had been fired by Dior. He eventually founded his own fashion house YSL. He retired in 2002 and became reclusive, living at his homes in Normandy and Morocco with his pet French Bulldog Moujik.
