Stock Photo - Lieutenant Robert Davies(1900-1975), who received the George Cross for commanding the bomb disposal unit which saved St. Paul's Cathedral during the Blitz. The 8ft bomb took three days to be removed from the mud where it had fallen on September 15th 1940, only 26ft away from the cathedral wall. Davies drove the lorry bearing the bomb at high speed across cleared roads to Hackney Marshes, where it was safely disposed of.
